Chennai Super Kings won their fifth Indian Premier League title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the MS Dhoni-led side beat Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets. Ravindra Jadeja hit ten runs off the last two balls to bring the trophy home for CSK. When Jadeja hit the winning boundary, there was a big frenzy of messages on social media congratulating the Yellove Army.

On another note, England’s Barmy Army are doing the rounds on social media for the cryptic tweet that they posted following CSK’s emphatic win. “Congrats Ben and Mo,” they tweeted along with a photo of the duo in a CSK jersey. When the tweet came out, this did not go down well with the die-hard fans of CSK as many were quick to react to the post. Ben Stokes was out injured for a major part of IPL 2023.

Here is the tweet:

Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali had an underwhelming Indian Premier League in 2023

When it came to Moeen Ali, he was a pale shade of his normal self and did not get many opportunities. Even in the final, though the Englishman was in the XI, he did not bat and did not get to bowl. Also, CSK had spent 16.25 crore INR on Ben Stokes, which drained a large part of CSK’s auction purse in 2023. Moeen, on the other hand, in the 10 innings that he batted, the left-hander scored 124 runs with 23 being the highest score. With the ball, he only picked up 9 wickets.

GT could not defend their 2022 IPL title. CSK got a slight upper hand in the second innings even as GT scored 214-4 in their 20 overs. The CSK batters smashed short and sharp cameos on the road to getting past GT’s still-revised target on the night of the final. Devon Conway led the way in the second innings with a valuable 47 off 25 balls with fours and two sixes.

For GT, Sai Sudharsan scored a tantalizing 96 off 47 balls with eight fours and six sixes. Wriddhiman Saha also played a good hand of 54 off 39 balls with five fours and one six. Mohit Sharma bowled the decisive final over but came out on the wrong side of things.
