Ahead of the first ODI against India, Bangladesh have dealt with major blows. Express fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the first match of the series due to a back injury. Bangladesh will miss his presence in the series opener.

Taskin isn’t the only mainstay who will miss the important game. Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal’s availability is also under the scanner. He too might not play the whole series because of the groin injury he picked during the warm-up encounter against India A.

“Taskin is out of the first ODI and we will know about his availability for the rest of the ODI series only after another fitness test,” Bangladesh’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin told ESPNcricinfo.

“Tamim is also in doubt due to a groin injury but we will keep assessing him in the next few days.”

Taskin Ahmed was Bangladesh’s best bowler at the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He made life difficult for batters with his pace and bounce. The Bangladesh tall fast bowler’s presence would have been important in the first match of the series.

Meanwhile, left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam has replaced Taskin Ahmed for the first ODI. The former is currently playing for Bangladesh A against India A in Cox’s Bazar. Notably, Taskin Ahmed picked up the injury during a BCL match on 20th November. He was taking a painkiller injection for the last three days.

The ODI series between India and Bangladesh gets underway on 4th December. The three ODIs are scheduled to be played on 4th, 7th and 10th of December 2022.

Shere Bangla National Stadium will host the first two matches, while the third game will be played Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Following the ODI series, the two teams will lock horns with each other in a two-match Test series.

The first Test is slated to be played from 14th to 18th December 2022, while the second game is scheduled to be played from 22nd December to 26th December 2022.
