‘Bangladesh ko hara dena chaahiye tha’ – Fans react as Afghanistan win their third consecutive match in ODI World Cup 2023
Afghanistan had a great day in the ODI World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands. Playing the Dutch for the first time in the history of the ODI World Cup, the Asian side dominated the game completely as they won their third match in a row in the ongoing tournament. The sensational run of Afghanistan continues, as they have a good record in the tournament till now.
The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first. The Dutch got a very good start, as their openers took them to a good score in the first 10 overs. On a tricky wicket in Lucknow, Netherlands made the most out of the Powerplay to score 66 runs. But from there, they saw an unreal collapse. From 73/1 at one stage, Netherlands ended up getting dismissed for just 179 runs.
Max O’Dowd’s wicket began the collapse for the men in orange. His wicket gave good confidence to Afghanistan, and they went on to claim wickets one after the other. Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad claimed 3 and 2 wickets each. Their economical spells totally caught the Dutch batters off guard. Rashid Khan bowled a tight wicketless spell. Mujeeb bowled a very good spell as well.
Afghanistan chased the target comfortably
Chasing 180, Afghanistan lost the wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran early. But from there, Afghanistan won the match easily, thanks to the anchoring from Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi. Rahmat scored 52 runs in 54 balls, which included 8 boundaries. The Afghanistan skipper Shahidi scored an unbeaten 56*(64) and saw his team home.
Azmatullah Omarzai helped his skipper to chase the target with his timely 31*(28). With the win, Afghanistan now has 4 wins in their 7 matches. Afghanistan has beaten some strong teams like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka so far in the tournament.
The win against the Dutch has given a good chance for Afghanistan to think about their future in the tournament. They still have to face Australia and South Africa in the tournament. But with 4 wins under their belt, the confidence of Afghanistan can lead them to do wonders in the remainder of the tournament.
