‘Ban toh honge, lekin reason alag’ – Fans react as Tamil Nadu legislator demands ban on Chennai Super Kings
Because the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did not choose players from the state for the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, a Tamil Nadu lawmaker has asked for a ban on the team. The CSK was collecting money from people through commercials, but it wasn’t bringing in players from Tamil Nadu, according to SP Venkateshwaran, an MLA from Dharmapuri.
A prominent member of the PMK, a local party in Tamil Nadu, is Venkateshwaran. In the 2021 assembly elections, the party obtained five seats. The leader asserted that despite being known as a Tamil Nadu squad, the CSK lacked talented players from the region. “They are making profits from our people through advertisements projecting it as a Tamil Nadu team, but there are no talented players from our state (in the team),” he was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.
Chennai Super Kings will play in the ‘Southern Derby’ against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday
During the Assembly’s discussion of the request for grants for the youth welfare and sports development department, Venkateshwaran brought up the subject. India Cements is the team’s owner. CSK is well-liked and well-known for its dependable IPL performance. In 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, the squad won the IPL championship four times.
After the Mumbai Indians have won the trophy five times, CSK is the second-most successful franchise in the IPL, with four league championships. CricTracker reports that CSK earned Rs 201.65 crore from media rights during the IPL 2022. In IPL 2023, their earnings from media rights would possibly exceed Rs 400 crore.
With his massive hits, MS Dhoni pushed back time. Still, Rajasthan Royals seamer Sandeep Sharma hammered a few flawless block-hole deliveries to give Rajasthan Royals a three-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in a tight IPL match on Wednesday in Chennai. Next, Monday’s ‘Southern Derby’ between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), featuring former India captains Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, will take place at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

A hindi speaking #MSDhoni is the most consistent captain in IPL.
Without him #CSK wouldn't ve achieved anything. They never bid for their local player #Dineshkarthik all these years as they have Dhoni.
South is busy with this language stuff every time.
