Indian women’s cricket team defeated Bangladesh women’s cricket team to enter the final of the Asian Games 2023. In a one-sided contest, India dominated the game completely and humiliated Bangladesh on their way to the final. The Indian bowling attack gave one of the memorable performances and helped India win the match very comfortably. India has a good opportunity to claim the gold medal.
On a slow batting track, Bangladesh women won the toss and rightfully opted to bat first. The batters of Bangladesh just could not get going. Only a few could stay in the middle. But most of the batters just could not handle the collective efforts of the Indian bowling attack. Led by Pooja Vastrakar’s sensational bowling spell, India just kept Bangladesh out of the game right from the start.
The 23-year-old bowled 4 overs and claimed 4 wickets, conceding just 17 runs in her spell. Titas Sadhu, Amanjot Kaur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Devika Vaidya claimed a wicket each. All the Indian bowlers had an economy of less than 4.50 in the match. In fact, barring Vastrakar, other bowlers had an economy of less than 3.50 in the match, which just shows how good they were against Bangladesh.
The collective efforts of the bowling unit meant that India restricted Bangladesh to a total of just 51 runs. Only one batter, Nigar Sultana, managed to cross double digit mark for Bangladesh. Chasing the target of 52 runs, India lost its captain Smriti Mandhana early. But the target was not challenging enough to create further damage to the Indian team.
Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues took India home with their timely partnership. Verma scored 17 runs in 21 balls and Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 20*(15), which happened to be the highest score in the match. With the win, India qualified for the final in their maiden appearance in the Asian Games. India will face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the gold medal match, which will happen on the 25th of September.
