Pakistan captain Babar Azam expressed disappointment with his team’s performance after they got whitewashed by England at their home by 3-0 on Tuesday. The Men-in-Green suffered an eight-wicket loss in the third Test at National Stadium Karachi as England chased down the target of 167 comfortably in just 28.1 overs.

This marks the first instance of Pakistan being whitewashed in Tests at home. Babar also has another ignominy to his name after becoming the first Pakistan captain to suffer four home Test match losses in a year.

Reflecting on the series in the post-match presentation, Babar said that there were some positives to gather despite the tame series loss.

“Disappointing series as a team. We weren’t good enough to fight back but credit also goes to England. They played really well. We lost (this game) in the first innings,” Babar said.

“We were good in patches but not consistent overall. (Bowling) It has been a challenge when your best bowlers are not fit. We have a lot of positives to take from this series to take into the next one but we also have to fix up our mistakes too,” he added.

The Pakistan captain finished as the highest run scorer of the series for Pakistan and third-highest overall scoring 348 runs in six innings at an average of 58 with one hundred and three fifties to his name. Abrar Ahmed finished as the highest wicket-taker of the series picking up 17 wickets at an average of 27.17 and an economy of 4.73 with one five-wicket haul and one ten-wicket haul.

Pakistan’s hopes of WTC Final are over

The 23-year-old Harry Brook was awarded ‘Player of the Series’ for finishing as the highest run-getter of the series. He scored 468 runs in five innings at an average of 93.60 and a sensational strike rate of 93.41 having three hundreds and 1 fifty to his name.

Pakistan lost a home Test series to Australia by 1-0 earlier in March 2022. Their hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final are completely gone with the 3-0 whitewash defeat against England pushing them down to the seventh spot in the points table with a points percentage of 38.89.

Pakistan will next host New Zealand for two Tests and three ODIs starting 26th December.
