India and Australia fought it out on the second day of the first Test at Nagpur. India were 77-1 at the start of the day. Ravichandran Ashwin made 23 off 62 balls with two fours and one six. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli fell quickly. Pujara fell to a bad shot and Kohli made an error in misjudgment which costed him his wicket.

Suryakumar Yadav also did not get going on his Test debut as he scored 8 off 20. Rohit Sharma came up with a wonderful innings in testing conditions as he made 120 off 212 balls with 15 fours and two sixes. When Srikar Bharat was dismissed by Todd Murphy at 240-7, it seemed that India was staring down the barrel.

But a superb recovery was orchestrated by Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, both of whom took India to 321 -7 at the end of day 2 from a position where the game could go anywhere to a position of strength.

The left-handers got together and took India out of a precarious situation. Jadeja made an unbeaten 66 off 170 balls with nine fours and Axar made an unbeaten 52 off 102 balls with eight fours. The two players from Gujarat did amazing work for India.

The best part of the day for Australia was Todd Murphy as he bowled a wonderful long spell and picked up 5-82 in his 36-over marathon. He picked up the wickets of KL Rahul, Pujara, Kohli, Ashwin and Bharat. The debutant gave a good account of himself in India and did very well against a quality Indian batting lineup.

India are leading by 144 runs at the end of day 2 and might have got to a position of reasonable control in this Test Match. The Australians will have only themselves to blame as they could not end up fully penetrating the lower half of the Indian batting lineup.

Australia have shown that they possess the fighting spirit and are prepared to push India and Test their limits. India, on the other hand, have walked the talk with their cricket and not about the pitch like some of the Australian players. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
