Australia has white-washed New Zealand by 3-0 in the T20I series in their home. This series win has boosted their confidence as the T20 World Cup is around the corner. Australia won by 27 runs as they sealed the third T20I match against New Zealand in Eden Park in Auckland with a win.

On Sunday, rain delayed play many times before the visiting squad crossed the finish line. After being put to bat first, Australia scored 118 for 4 in 10.4 overs. Rain halted play four times in the first innings. Steve Smith again failed as an opener as he was dismissed on four runs by Adam Milne. Travis Head and Matthew Short stood up and put on a partnership of 51 runs for the second wicket.

Before getting out Travis Head scored 33 runs while Matthew Short scored 27 runs from 11 balls. Josh Inglis Glenn Maxwell and Tim David played short cameos as Australia posted 118 runs on the scoreboard before rain interrupted the play.

Glenn Phillips’ effort goes in vain

As per the DLS method, New Zealand had to chase the target of 126 runs from 10 overs. As New Zealand batter Will Young gave a good start but failed to take on the opportunity as Matthew Short took his wicket. New Zealand was without their star players as Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell were ruled out due to injury. Kane Williamson was not available due to the birth of his child.

At a time of 5 overs, New Zealand were 51 for 3 as the required run-rate had gone up. Glenn Phillips stood up and scored 40 runs from 24 balls which included 5 fours and 2 sixes but his knock went in vain as they finished 98 for 3 wickets.

Australia will be playing two Test matches against New Zealand from Thursday. The first Test match will be played in Wellington
