Australia began their tour of South Africa with a bang, as they beat the home side by a whopping 111 runs in the first T20I. Under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh, who led Australia for the first time, the kangaroos played a dominant game both with the bat and ball and clinched the first T20I by a huge margin. Australia showed why they are one of the best sides in the world.

On a good batting surface in Durban, South Africa won the toss and rightfully elected to bowl first. Australia lost Travis Head early. Mitchell Marsh joined Matthew Short and was at his aggressive best. In the first 4.5 overs, Australia had butchered 69 runs and lost 2 wickets. Despite losing wickets at the other end, Marsh did not resort to anchoring the innings.

Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis could not do much with the bat, which brought Tim David to the middle. The designated finisher of Australia decimated the South African bowlers in the middle overs. David took on both pacers and spinners very well. The 27-year-old scored 64 runs in just 28 balls which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. The innings of David changed the game completely.

Mitchell Marsh and Tanveer Sangha shine for Australia

At the other end, Marsh was at his aggressive best too. The Australian captain scored an unbeaten 92(49), which included 13 fours and 2 sixes. As a result, Australia scored 226 runs in their 20 overs. A target of 227 seemed a bit too much for South Africa. Temba Bavuma gave up his wicket in the very first over. Reeza Hendricks and Rassie Van Der Dussen were the only pair that could put up some fight.

After the dismissal of Van Der Dussen, South Africa collapsed. From 47/1 after 4.5 overs at one stage, South Africa was bundled out for 115 runs in 15.3 overs. The debutant Tanveer Sangha bowled an exceptional spell and claimed 4 wickets. Marcus Stoinis and Spencer Johnson claimed 3 wickets and 2 wickets respectively.
