‘Aur bhai, aa gaya swaad?’- Pakistan cricket fans overjoyed as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan get back to form ahead of 20-20 World Cup final
Pakistan went against New Zealand in their semi-final clash in the 20-20 World Cup and came up with a statement win. The Men in Green’s hopes were hanging by a thread after back-to-back losses against India and Zimbabwe in the first two matches.
A gift in the form of South Africa’s defeat by the Netherlands gave Pakistan a chance to grab the last semi-final spot and they did exactly that. Coming onto the semi-final clash with New Zealand, the Pakistan team was thought to be on the back foot. The Kiwis had done incredibly well in the tournament so far, only losing to England in the Group stages, and were thought to be the team to beat coming into the semi-final.
Babar Azam who had made just 39 runs in 5 matches at the 20-20 World Cup was under the massive pressure of coming up with a substantial performance in the do-or-die match and that’s what he did. The right-hand batter who was in sensational form throughout the year and before that rose again against New Zealand and hit a match-defining 53 off of 42.
The Pakistan skipper pulled the sting out of the game with his match-winning partnership of 105 with Mohammad Rizwan, another batter who has been struggling with form. Rizwan also came up with a half-century knock of 57 off of 43 to get back into form.
Pakistan won the match by 7 wickets as a result of Babar- Rizwan’s century partnership and soon fans along with cricket experts came out to the two Pakistan batters’ praise.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s comeback to form:
