‘Aur baarish me match krwao benstokes’ – Fans react as Shaheen Afridi dismisses Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli right after rain break
India takes on arch-rival Pakistan in their campaign opener game of the Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday. After winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first on a track that had an uneven bounce. However, India got off to a shaky start as both openers Shubman Gill and Rohit struggled in the first few deliveries.
However, Rohit has lately looked comfortable, as he scored 11 runs off 18 balls with the help of two boundaries before the rain interrupted the game. After a 30-minute halt, the game started once again, but this time Rohit failed to score runs as he was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi in the fifth over. An inswinger from Afridi found a gap between bat and pad and struck Rohit’s off stump.
Rohit failed to capitalise on the opportunity, and India lost their first wicket for just 15 runs in the fifth over. Early in the innings, Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman dropped a catch on Rohit in the very first over of the game when he was batting at 0. However, after his departure, ace India batter Virat Kohli joined Shubman Gill in the middle.
Virat Kohli also fails to put up a show
With an uneven bounce in the pitch and overcast conditions, batters had to face a difficult task in Pallekele today. Ace India batter Virat Kohli also failed to capitalise on the opportunity as he was also dismissed by Shaheen Afridi in the very next over. Afridi’s inswinger once again found the gap between bat and pad and struck into the off stump. India are now struggling at 30/2 in eight overs after losing their top two batters.
For batting, it will be a difficult test for the Indian batting line-up as the middle order seems unsettled, and Pakistan spinners will definitely ask difficult questions. However, the team will expect Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer to compete against them and lead India to a comfortable position. It’s worth noting that this is Pakistan’s second group match, and a victory here will confirm their position in Super 4.
Here is how fans react to Rohit Sharma’s and Virat Kohli’s dismissals:

What an unplayable ball that was! We should have opted to ball first. D/L will come into play now.. Pak will benefit from it.
