Australia have not had it easy in their series against India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023 so far. They have suffered back-to-back losses in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs followed by a 6-wicket loss in the second Test in Delhi. Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has taken a dig at the Australians and said that India will win the Test series 4-0 in a clean sweep.

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by defeating Australia in these two Tests. If India wins the Test series by a 3-1 or 3-0 margin, then they have firmly sealed their place in the Test Championship final, which will be held at the Oval in London on June 7. India have won the last three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Australia are only focusing on negative things – Harbhajan Singh

“I do not doubt that India will win 4-0. Even if it was a 10-match series, India would beat Australia 10-0 because this Australian team doesn’t have any firepower. If there is something in the pitch, they throw their wickets from the dressing room itself,” the former off-spinner said in an interview on Sports Tak.

Australia had intense preparation coming into the series, they decided against having the practice game, but the Kangaroos had a four-day preparatory camp at Bengaluru where Australia practised against Baroda-based off-spinner Mahesh Pithiya, who had modelled his action on the lines of Ravichandran Ashwin. This experiment has not resulted in success for Australia so far.

“Australia practised against Ravichandran Ashwin’s duplicate, but I feel the Australian team itself is a duplicate one. Their mindset is such that they are focusing only on negative things. They created so much confusion that they lost the game even before the first ball was bowled. It doesn’t seem like they have done any serious preparation for this tour. Looking at their performance, I think the only thing they practised was about getting out.”

The teams got a big break of 10 days, which is uncommon in cricket these days, as the second Test like the first ended in three days which gave the teams a breather amidst their hectic schedule. The remaining Tests will be held at Indore and Ahmedabad respectively.
