Asia Cup 2022: Rahul Dravid joins Indian squad prior to India-Pakistan clash

The Indian head coach might join the Indian camp ahead of their game against Pakistan on Sunday (August 28) as he reportedly tested negative for the virus on Saturday.

The much-awaited match between India and Pakistan will take place on Sunday (August 27) and Dubai International Stadium will host the high-pressure match as full attendance is expected for the game. Nothing excites a cricket fan like a match between India and Pakistan and the two teams faced each other before this in the 20-20 World Cup 2021.

India’s head coach tested positive for Covid-19 on August 23 and was forced to stay back, while VVS Laxman was named the team’s interim coach until the former’s return. An official from the Indian cricket board earlier said to the Indian Express that Rahul Dravid had tested negative and was eligible to take the flight. “Rahul test results has come negative and he is fit to fly,” the official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express. On the back of this, it has now been confirmed that the Indian coach has joined the Indian squad ahead of the most important game.

The secretary of the Indian cricket board Jay Shah earlier confirmed the news of the Indian head coach testing positive for the virus and revealed the same in a statement. He revealed that the coach had tested positive and will stay back until he tests negative.

“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report,” he revealed in a statement.

In a recent development, it has been reported and confirmed that Indian coach Rahul Dravid has tested negative and has joined the Indian camp ahead of the clash.

India will look to return back the favour to Pakistan and will look to give a sweet reply for the defeat in the 20-20 World Cup the previous year. Babar Azam and co are marching on to this game with supreme confidence and the skipper looks in supreme form and he might as well get his team a win here. With Rahul Dravid returning back to the Indian hut, the morale of the Indian camp will be high and they’ll look to take it forward to the field.
