Even though, he has no major trophies to show for it, Dravid’s performance as head-coach has been phenomenal

The Indian Cricket Board faces a critical task in appointing a new Head-Coach for the India team. The contracts of the incumbent coach, Rahul Dravid, and his entire staff expired following the World Cup, leaving their future uncertain. To manage the ongoing T20 International series against Australia, the Board formed an interim coaching staff headed by former cricketer VVS Laxman. However, finding a permanent solution remains a priority, and the Board is actively pursuing this matter.

Reports indicate that the Board approached former fast bowler and Gujarat Titans head coach, Ashish Nehra, for the position of T20 head coach. Under Nehra’s coaching, the Gujarat Titans won the IPL in their debut season in 2022 and secured a runners-up position this year. However, Nehra has declined the offer to become India’s T20 head coach, a decision which suggests that Nehra is keen to continue his successful stint with the Titans,

Board offers extension to Rahul Dravid

In light of this development, the Board has offered an extension to Dravid and his team until the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence in June 2024. Under the leadership of Dravid, India embarked on a remarkable journey in the recently concluded World Cup, securing ten consecutive victories before falling narrowly to Australia in a heart-wrenching final. India’s exceptional performance under Dravid’s guidance ignited widespread calls for his retention as head coach. Many lauded the harmonious team atmosphere and conducive environment that Dravid, along with captain Rohit Sharma and his staff, had fostered.

Despite the outpouring support for his continued leadership, Rahul Dravid has maintained a discreet stance regarding his future as head coach. His decision remains shrouded in uncertainty, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next move.

However, since India’s full-fledged tour of South Africa will begin soon, the Board has kept its options open and commenced preparations. To maintain adaptability and prevent last-minute disruptions, the Board has initiated travel arrangements for both Dravid’s and Laxman’s teams.
