Ravichandran Ashwin has been a wonderful asset for India in Test Cricket. The Tamil- Nadu off-spinner has been in a wonderful form whenever he has donned the white flannels for the national side. Ashwin picked up 6-91 in the first innings against Australia at Ahmedabad.

The 36-year-old picked up the wickets of the dangerous Travis Head. He picked up the wickets of the centurion Cameron Green and Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc the Australian pace spearhead was also dismissed. Ashwin’s other two victims were Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon.

Conditions at Ahmedabad were conducive for batting and on a pitch which was well-rolled, the initiative was seized by the Kangaroos. Australia scored 480 on the back of Usman Khawaja’s 180 off 422 balls with 21 fours and Green smashed his maiden Test hundred. The Australian all-rounder scored 114 off 170 balls with 18 fours that floored India.

Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy added a 50 plus partnership for the 9th wicket against India

At 409-8, India missed a window of opportunity to dismiss the lower-order batters quickly and Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy made merry on the freebies given by the Indian bowlers. Lyon scored 34 off 96 balls with six fours and Murphy scored 41 off 61 balls with five fours.

Australia have shown what they are made of by keeping the Indians on the field for close to two days and then hammering the Indian bowlers with outstanding batting performances. India had no answers to the Kangaroos and the bowlers were wayward in their lengths.

In the third Test at Indore, Australia showed better application with the bat than India and won the game by 9 wickets. The pitch at Indore was spin-friendly and the Australian spin trio of Lyon, Murphy and Kuhemann exploited the conditions to good use and got better results.

India started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on a good note with resounding wins at Nagpur where India won by an innings and 132 runs and also at Delhi where they picked up a six-wicket win after they swept Australia in a session at Delhi courtesy Ravindra Jadeja who picked up 7-42.
