Former Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja has come down heavily on the board for the appointment of Mickey Arthur as the director of the Pakistan Cricket Team. His appointment was confirmed by the PCB on Thursday. The Board said that he will have a major role to play with Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup that will take place in India.

However, what will be the startling development, Arthur will not be travelling with the team. But the former Pakistan coach will be managing operations remotely. This is because of his commitments with Derbyshire County Club where his contract will run till 2025. Ramiz Raja told Cricbuzz that he was miffed with the appointment and was angry.

The current PCB chairman will not even make it into an XI of a club game – Ramiz Raja

“First of its kind coach/director of cricket picked to run Pakistan cricket remotely, whose loyalty is first with his county job than Pakistan cricket. This is as crazy as a clown in a village circus. He then vented his anger at the PCB for their flawed understanding of the game of cricket.

“A PCB chairman who doesn’t understand cricket, probably was not even good enough to make it to the XI in a club game, heads a cabal of political, petty-minded club runners for a management committee.to run Pakistan cricket affairs, who are on a Rs 12 lakhs a month salary. The PCB said that Arthur will play a big role when it comes to taking decisions. But he will not travel to all assignments concerning Pakistan. Ryan Duckett the chief of Derbyshire said that Aurthur will fully remain committed to the County.

This will be a second coming for Aurthur and his second innings with the Men in Green. He took Pakistan to a Champions Trophy win in 2017 and also guided them to the number-one ranking in Test cricket. Pakistan have won an ODI World Cup in 1992 under the leadership of Imran Khan. In the 1999 World Cup, they made it to the finals but lost against Australia.
