The 12th match of the Women’s T20 League took place between Mumbai and Gujarat on Tuesday. Gujarat won the toss and chose to bowl first. The game was played at the Brabourne Stadium at Mumbai.
The start was not ideal for Mumbai as Hayley Matthews fell for a three ball duck. But, Yastika Bhatia smashed a good-looking 44 off 37 balls with five fours and one six.
Nat Sciver Brunt made a crucial 36 off 31 balls with five fours and one six. She was out leg-before to Kim Garth. Amelia Kerr, on the other hand contributed 19 off 13 balls but she could not covert her start into a big score.
The New Zealander fell at 135 for 4 and from then on, it was a flurry of wickets at the end from Gujarat. Harmanpreet Kaur starred with the bat for Mumbai, scoring a crisp 51 off 30 balls with seven fours and two sixes. The Indian skipper held the Mumbai innings together.
Nat Sciver Brunt picked up 3-21 in her four overs for Mumbai
For Gujarat with the ball, Ashleigh Gardner picked up 3-34 in her four overs. Sneh Rana bowled superbly and had figures of 1-17 in her four overs. Mumbai got off to the perfect start as Sophia Dunkley was out first ball to Brunt.
Matthews got Meghna out for 16 off 17 balls with three fours. Annabel Sutherland fell to Matthews for a four-ball duck. Harleen Deol tried to steer the ship, but, she was out lbw to Issy Wong.
Gardner well to Kerr after scoring 8 off 1o balls. Gujarat were tottering at 49-5. Kerr picked up Dylan Hemalatha soon after getting caught off Wong. Brunt picked Rana after she made 20 off 19 balls with three fours.
Matthews got Tanuja Kanwar out caught behind. Gujarat never came to the party with the bat. They were found wanting. It was a great all-round performance from Mumbai. They have dominated the WTL and are strong contenders to clinch the title. It was a dominating performance by Mumbai.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twiiter:
After #WPL Auction everyone was saying that Mumbai Indians is looking like the weakest team in the tournament but now after 5 league matches this team is looking the Australia of early 20's captained by Ricky Ponting.
Just Unbelievable.

The #WPL teams are too dependent on their foreign players. Look at Mumbai Indians for example.
Bowling- all 4 overseas + Saika Ishaque
Batting is essentially 3 overseas players + Harmanpreet Kaur & Yastika Bhatia.
MI are effectively using only 7 players in every game!#MIvGG
