‘Arey kehna kya chaahte ho’ – Fans react as Mohammad Aamir talks about Virat Kohli nearing his 49th ODI hundred
Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds. The Indian batter currently has 48 ODI hundreds to his name and is just one hundred away from equaling the record of Tendulkar. The former Indian batter played more than 24 years for India and scored 49 hundreds in ODIs. Virat is just two hundreds away from surpassing the record created by Tendulkar 11 years ago.
But the fate has not been good with Virat. Though the Indian batter has been scoring runs consistently in recent months, he has not been able to convert his fifties to three-figure marks, as well as he would have liked. In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Kohli has been dismissed between the scores of 80 to 100 for three times. Kohli has missed out on three hundreds.
Against Australia, Virat scored 85 runs and helped India to chase a tricky total of 200 runs in Chennai. Against New Zealand, Virat scored a match-winning 95(104) that helped India to chase 274 runs in Dharamshala. But he was short of his 49th hundred by just 5 runs. Against Sri Lanka, Virat scored 88 runs in 94 balls and missed yet another hundred.
‘Wo khelta hi nahi aisi series’ – Mohammad Aamir
Speaking about Virat nearing the record of Sachin, the former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Aamir gave his opinion. The left-arm pacer felt that if Virat played against lower-ranked teams, he would have surpassed Tendulkar’s record by now. “Kohli agar Nepal, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh. Ye saare series khela hota toh pata lage, aaj Sachin ka wo world record tod chuka hota,” said Aamir.
The former Pakistan cricketer said that Virat does not play against lower-ranked teams, which does not allow him to score as many hundreds as he would have liked. “Wo khelta hi nahi aisi series,” added Aamir. Virat has helped the Indian team to win many matches in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The Indian batter is currently the second-highest run scorer in the tournament and has a hundred and 3 fifty-plus scores to his name.
Here’s how the fans reacted to Aamir’s statement:
