‘Apne team ka morale down krrhe ha ponting saab’ – Fans shocked as Ricky Ponting picks Rajasthan as favourites for Indian T20 League
The Indian T20 League is here, and it promises to be bigger than ever. With the advent of the impact player rule and others, there will be reviews for wides and no balls as well. The playing XIs will be put out after the toss. All these rules promise to make the league more exciting and fresher. This is the 16th edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting revealed that Rajasthan are one of the strong contenders to lift the title this year. The franchise made it to the final of the competition last year, but they could not win a trophy for the second time. The franchise will not have Prasidh Krishna this year. The Karnataka pacer is ruled out of the Indian T20 League due to injury.
Sandeep Sharma has replaced Prasidh Krishna in the Rajasthan squad
“The other finalist last year, Rajasthan Royals, I think have got a really, really good squad. And we said that last year, immediately after the auction, we were pretty impressed with what they were able to do and put a good squad together. They’ve only built on that again this year. I think Rajasthan will be there, thereabouts,” Ponting said on the Cricket Governing Body review show.
The Royals have picked up Sandeep Sharma in place of Krishna. The right-arm pacer has picked up 114 wickets in the Indian T20 League. He has an average of 26.33 and an economy rate of 7.77. His strike rate in the Indian T20 League is 20.33. The bowler had picked up 39 wickets in three seasons for the Punjab franchise. The Punjab pacer shot to fame in the U-19 World Cup in 2012 where he helped India win the Cup in Australia.
The Royals have put together a really good side this year. The spin department looks strong with the likes of Adam Zampa joining the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Jason Holder has been brought in as the all-round option. Riyan Parag has been in good form for Assam. He had batted in the top order and has bowled 25-30 overs in the domestic circuit.
