‘An all time great’ -Fans elated as Ravichandran Ashwin picks up 450 wickets in Test cricket
Ravichandran Ashwin bowled Alex Carey the Australian wicketkeeper-batter on Thursday and, with that, he became the second fastest to reach the milestone of 450 Test wickets. He also became the second Indian bowler to achieve this feat.
Ashwin got to the milestone second quickest in terms of Tests played. He has achieved the feat in 89 Tests, only behind the Muttiah Muralitharan, who did it in 80 Tests.
Ashwin has had a wonderful Test career. He has been the lead spinner of the Indian bowling attack in the white flannels since making his Test debut in 2011. He has played 89 matches and has picked up 451 wickets at an average of 24.28. He has 30 five-wicket hauls to his name and has been a handy batter down the order. The all-rounder has 3043 Test runs and has five hundreds to his name.
Ashwin has picked up 91 wickets against Australia in the 19 Tests that he has played against them
Ashwin has been a wonderful player for the side. He also has a wonderful record against the Australians in Test cricket. He has played 19 matches against them till now and has picked up 91 wickets against the Kangaroos in white flannels at an average of 31.24 and has 5 five-wicket hauls against Australia. He also has 457 runs against them. In the first innings at Nagpur, Ashwin picked up 3-42 in his 15-over spell.
The off spinner was a trump card under MS Dhoni’s captaincy and also when Virat Kohli was the Test skipper of the side. His analytical mind helps him to find different ways to dismiss batters as he has disclosed on his YouTube channel. He has experimented a lot with his skills and has been finding new ways all the time to improve himself. Let us take a look at the reactions of the fans following Ashwin’s record-breaking effort:

R Ashwin, your cricketing brain cannot be questioned ever.
He sets the field for Carrey's Reverse Sweep rather than keeping close in fielders and gets his wicket in Reverse Sweep. @ashwinravi99 #INDvsAUS #BCCI #BGT2023— Aayush Kumar (@iamaayu) February 9, 2023
