The next generation CPUs by AMD, ‘Granite Ridge’ are likely to be released in the first half of 2024. As per reports, the new Zen 5 architecture will be using TSMC’s 4nm process.

AMD will likely be skipping the 8000 and using the 9000 series as their numbering. A similar trend of skipping a series is being followed by AMD.

This is due to the company making every other series with dedicated graphics. The 8000 series also came out as APUs, so the next series will likely be 9000.

According to reports, Granite Ridge will be a chipset-based processor, similar to the earlier 7000 series. It is anticipated to include one or two “Eldora” CCDs, each with eight Zen 5 CPU cores and 1 MB of L2 cache. The size of the L3 cache is not yet confirmed.

While the clock speed will remain the same, the same layout on the 4nm process will likely double the performance. AMD is also making steady progress in their GPUs, and their most recent FSR3 comes as a great competitor to Nvidia.

Intel struggling to keep up

Intel is also set to release their new processors this year named ‘Arrow Lake’. However, in the last few years, the company has been trying to catch up with AMD. It started with the Zen architectures of AMD, and Intel has not been able to keep up.

The biggest thing going on for AMD is their price-to-performance ratio in general processors. For gaming, their X3D line-up is currently embarrassing Intel’s gaming performance.

Intel’s most recent generational upgrades were also on the old-generation chips that provided almost no improvement in performance. However, the company may be able to give some form of competition this year.

On the other hand, AMD is reportedly mass-producing the new chips to take over the market this year too. The price and full specifications are expected to be revealed soon.
