The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28 has been delayed by rain, in the same way as Qualifier 2 was delayed by rain. As the event organisers were getting ready for the closing ceremony, a little drizzle began to fall.

Rain began to increase 15 minutes before the planned toss time (7 p.m. IST), and high-speed winds and thunder also began to appear. The spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium, who were dancing to the music of DJ Nucleya who was there for the closing ceremony, were not stopped, though.

Before the big final began, thousands of fans had already lined up, with Chennai Super Kings supporters taking up most of the stands as they came to see MS Dhoni. The Sunday toss was postponed due to the continuing drizzle. The Narendra Modi Stadium’s plaza looked like a lake because of how much water the earth had absorbed from the heavy rain.

Will GT lift the title for the second time in a row?

A 5-overs-per-side match must be completed before 12:26 AM IST on May 29. The match officials will wait for a 5-over match to begin because there will be no Super Over today. If even a 5-over match cannot be finished on Sunday, the match will move into the Reserve Day.

Notably, there was a rain delay prior to the start of Gujarat Titans vs. Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2023 Qualifier 2. But after a couple of hours, the rain stopped, and the two sides engaged in a complete 20-overs-per-side contest. After riding on a magnificent hundred from Shubman Gill (129), Gujarat Titans upset Mumbai Indians by 61 runs to get to the final.

If a 5-over match for the final cannot be scheduled to conclude before the end of the additional time on the reserve day, the teams will, if the circumstances allow, play a Super Over to decide the victor. In order for the Super Over to begin no later than 1.20am (Final), the field and pitch must be prepared for use.

The team that placed first in the league table following the 70 regular-season games will be deemed the winner of the appropriate playoff game or final. This rule applies even if the Super Over cannot begin as described in paragraphs 8 and 9 or continue uninterruptedly after that.
