India have made a winning start to their 20-20 World Cup campaign and, needless to say, the run-machine, Virat Kohli deserves all the credit. The modern-day great, Virat Kohli, once again, stood out when it was needed the most. After witnessing the knock on Sunday against Pakistan all the questions regarding his poor form with the bat would have rested in peace.

Virat Kohli came at the crease after the fall of the wicket of KL Rahul (4 off 8) in the 2nd over in pursuit of a 160-run target. At the end of the first six overs, India were in deep trouble at 26 for 3 and it became 31 for 4 after 6.1 overs.

India needed a partnership and Kohli then joined hands with Hardik Pandya. The duo stabilized the innings and took the risks when it was required. They brought the momentum towards India with a 113-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

The duo changed gears when spinners came into the attack. Virat Kohli took some time to get his eye in but changed gears quickly and hit shots that only he can. Till the second last over, Pakistan had the upper hand in the game. As many as 28 runs were needed in the last 8 deliveries and Kohli then hit two back-to-back sixes to Harris Rauf to bring the equation down to 16 needed in the final over.

Ashwin finished the match on the last ball but Virat Kohli ensured he stayed right till the end and guide his team to one of the memorable wins. The former Indian skipper starred with the ball as he smashed an unbeaten knock of 82 runs in 53 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes.

Several cricket pundits referred to that knock as Kohli’s best of all time. Pakistan cricketers were disheartened with the loss but still praised Kohli for his heroic knock.

Former Pakistan legendary cricketer, Wasim Akram said,

“Aliens do walk among us, he’s one of the best I’ve seen in the recent or modern greats. He has been scoring for the last 15 years, and he has the best average while chasing,” said Akram.

Another former Pakistan cricketer, M Hafeez wrote on Twitter,

“Team Pakistan never mind.. u tried ur best but it was special innings from a very special player @imVkohli. Congratulations @BCCI,”
