Ajay Jadeja perplexed by team management’s decision to rest Ishan Kishan after 3rd T20 vs AUS

Ishan Kishan made the most of the opportunities that he received as he scored two-half centuries in three games.

India triumphed in the captivating 5-match T20 series against Australia, securing a resounding 4-1 series victory. The only match that eluded India’s grasp was the third encounter held at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. This series served as a crucial stepping stone in India’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated for June 2024 in the United States and the Caribbean Islands.

Spearheaded by Suryakumar Yadav, this series was designed for India to experiment with a plethora of talented players, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, and Prasidh Krishna, amidst fierce competition. The upcoming T20 World Cup selection process is bound to be an intricate one for both the selectors and the players who ultimately miss out. The potential return of veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the marquee event further amplifies the intensity of the competition.

In the last two years, how many games has he played?: Ajay Jadeja

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has questioned the Indian team management’s decision to rest wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan after the first three matches of the recent T20I series against Australia. The decision has puzzled Jadeja, who believes that Kishan should have been given more opportunities to play considering that he had not played too much in recent times.

“There was a series right after the World Cup. Ishan Kishan played three matches and went home. Was he really that tired after three matches that he needed rest? He didn’t even play a lot of games at the World Cup. In the last two years, how many games has he played? This problem of Indian cricket is not of today, it is very old that we don’t select players but reject them,” Jadeja said while speaking to Sports Tak.

However, there could be another reason as to why the 25-year-old was rested. With the World Cup looming, the team management might have sought to evaluate other players’ capabilities, considering the limited number of matches remaining before the global event. Kishan had already indicated his form by scoring two half-centuries and so, it might have been the right call to give the others a chance.
