Virat Kohli did not have a good start against the Australians in the first Test at Nagpur. He showed that he had a problem against spin. He tried to play the leg glance of a ball from Todd Murphy down the leg side. But he could not connect it properly because of low bounce, and the catch was taken by Alex Carey.

Kohli has not been in good form in Test cricket off late and also has been struggling against finger spinners. He had recently got out early in the ODI series as he was not able to get runs at the start of the series against Mitchell Santer. He has been facing problems against spinners since 2019.

The right-hand batter in the series against Bangladesh was a pale shade of his normal self as Taijul Islam caused problems for Kohli. The Delhi batter scored 1 and 19 in the first Test at Chattogram and made 24 and 1 in the second Test at Dhaka. He did not have the best of series in the neighboring country. He has been in good limited-overs form but he is yet to come back to good Test form.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3-42 against Australia in the first innings at Nagpur

The 34-year-old has not been able to come to terms with Test cricket and be the beast that he once was in the five-day format. He has also struggled against spinners across formats. Kohli has made 8131 runs at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 55.49. He has got 28 50s and 27 hundreds.

India started off the first Test on a wonderful note as they dismissed Australia for 177 in the first innings on the back of exceptional performances from Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. Jadeja picked up 5-47 in the first innings in his 22-over spell. Ashwin picked up 3-42 in 15.5 overs.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were the two best batters in the first innings for Australia as they applied themselves and batted well and tried to get Australia back into the game. Labuschagne scored 49 off 123 balls with eight fours and Smith scored 37 off 107 with seven fours. India ended the first innings on Day 1 at 77-1. Let us take a look at the reactions on twitter-
