What happens when you face pressure from all corners and your backs are up against the wall, you roar back. This is what exactly Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan did. Beaten and bruised by England in the Ist T20I by England, the opening duo of Pakistan needed to make a statement, and they did this with absolute authority.

They chased down a daunting target of 200 runs that was set by England. Babar Azam has been under the knife for not being able to get big scores in the Asia Cup and there were talks that he should sacrifice his opening slot for the sake of the Pakistan team. As for Rizwan, there were complaints about his strike rate and him sometimes playing a little too slowly.

The dynamic Pakistan opening duo decided to take matters into their own hands and put all the noise under the carpet by smashing a record stand of two hundred runs for the first wicket. They romped home to the target without losing a wicket and three balls to spare.

Babar Azam played a magical innings and scored what was his second hundred in T20I. He scored 110 from only 66 balls, with 11 fours and 5 sixes in his innings and Mohammad Rizwan continued his good form from the recently concluded Asia Cup and smashed the England bowlers apart and scored 88 from 51 balls, with 5 fours and 4 sixes.

Absolutely proud of this amazing Pakistani team: Shaheen Shah Afridi

Shaheen Shah Afridi saw things through a slightly different lens. “I think it is time to get rid of captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Such selfish players. If they had played in the correct manner, this run chase would have been over in the 15th over. But they took it to the last over. Let’s make this a movement, no? Absolutely proud of this amazing Pakistani team,” he sarcastically tweeted, shutting the opening pair’s critics.
