In the 3rd match of the England vs India series, on a tough pitch, Smriti Mandhana led the way with the bat for India by scoring a solid 50 at the top in 79 balls with 5 boundaries. Then there was a collapse and India looked in tatters at 29-4. Deepti Sharma took the matters into her hands and scored a superb 68 from 106 balls with 7 fours, which was also the need of the hour for India.

Pooja Vastrakar made a vital contribution of 22 from 38 balls with 4 fours and that allowed India to reach a score of 169. Kate Cross was the hero for England with the ball as she picked up four wickets for the three lions. Freya Kemp and Emma Lamb picked up 2 wickets each to put the brakes on India and to prevent them from run-scoring.

In the second innings, the India bowlers put in a spirited performance with the ball. The bowlers came on and put it upon themselves to win the match for the veteran Jhulan Goswami who played her last one day international yesterday. The Indians were emotionally charged up as they wanted to do well and give her a grand farewell.

They did just that in the second innings, as Renuka Singh emerged as the star of the show with the ball for India. She picked up 4-29 in her 10-over spell. Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up 2 wickets and Jhulan Goswami also put up a great show, returning with figures of 2-30 in her 10 overs.

On a day where emotions were riding high, Jhulan Goswami should have ideally hogged the headlines. But Deepti Sharma took centerstage because of the fourth ball of her seventh over. Charlotte Dean was out of her crease and Deepti Sharma had the presence of mind to see that and quickly whipped the bails off.

This gave India the wicket of Charlotte Dean who was threatening to take away the match from India’s grasp. The run out at the non-striker’s end earned India a well-deserved win of 16 runs and a 3-0 whitewash over England. The cricket fraternity and fans had a divide over the incident and it created a furor over social media. Twitter was abuzz and here’s a look at the reactions here:
