“Abhi maza aega na bhidu”- Fans react as Chennai Super Kings retain MS Dhoni for IPL 2024
While mere belief in an outcome can be comforting, official confirmation provides unwavering reassurance. Fans of Chennai Super Kings will surely relate to this as it has now been confirmed that MS Dhoni will feature in next year’s edition of the Indian Premier League.
Dhoni, 42, faced a lot of issues with his knee during IPL 2023 which led fans to believe that it would be his last season in the Yellow of Chennai, at least as a player. Despite his troubles, Dhoni played a vital role for CSK, scoring 104 runs at a stunning strike rate of 182.46, regularly doing well lower down the order. He also led the side to their fifth IPL title. CSK defeated Gujarat Titans in what was a closely-fought Final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
When CSK won the IPL, fans thought that MS Dhoni would call time on his career as it was the best way to leave the game but Dhoni, taken aback by all the love and respect that he received throughout the season, promised to return in 2024, for the sake of his fans. “Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But with the amount of love I have received all over, the easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be to work hard for nine months and try to play another IPL,” he said at the time.
CSK let go of Stokes, Magala and 6 others
Still, there was doubt in the minds of fans as videos of him having difficulty with his knee surfaced on the internet. As such, today’s confirmation has been superb news for them.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings have released Ben Stokes, Sisanda Magala, Kyle Jamieson, Dwayne Pretorius, Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati, Akash Singh and Ambati Rayudu. While Stokes has pulled out of IPL 2024, Rayudu had announced his retirement ahead of this year’s Final. CSK will head into the upcoming auction with INR 32.10 Crore in their purse.
