‘Abhi bhi pichle saal wala form he hai inka’ – Fans dissapointed as Bangalore reduce Mumbai to 29 for 3 in the powerplay
In the 30 Indian T20 League matches that have taken place between the two sides, Mumbai dominating by 17 victories to Bangalore’s 13 victories. At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, renowned for its high-scoring matches, teams favour chasing. In a total of 81 games, teams chasing on this venue surpassed teams opening first with 44 victories to 33 victories, and four games have ended in a tie.
Bangalore, on the other hand, didn’t have an outstanding record playing at home, but they would be hoping to turn it into a fortress as they would be playing six of their initial eight matches in Bangalore, which could determine how the season goes.
Mumbai faced Bangalore in the 5th match of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League on Sunday. Bangalore, the home side skipper, Faf Du Plessis won the toss and opted to field first at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
It was a great decision to begin with as Mumbai got off to a very poor start as they lost big buys such as Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green as well as skipper Rohit Sharma within the powerplay itself. They looked in deep trouble as their main players of the team were already back in the pavilion with more than half of the innings remaining.
The young batter Tilak Varma and the evergreen Suryakumar Yadav had the job of rebuilding the innings. Tilak showed his class but Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t do much with his innings as he was caught two overs after the powerplay by Shahbaz Ahmed off Michael Bracewell’s bowling.
Mumbai’s bowling line-up will be under-pressure as well, since this is the first time that they don’t have the services of the ever reliable Jasprit Bumrah. He has been ruled out of the tournament and capped Indian pacer Sandeep Warrier has been announced as his replacement.
