Abay ye kohli ko kya ho gaya?’ – Fans left frustrated as Virat Kohli departs for just 1 run against Bangladesh
Virat Kohli recently got back to his best in the T20IUs as he scored his maiden hundred in the format against Afghanistan and also was India’s best batter in the T20 World Cup. He scored 296 runs in 6 matches at an average of 98.66 and a strike rate of 136.40 in the tournament.
In the ODI series against Bangladesh that he played however he looked gingerly as he scored 127 runs in just three matches. Kohli got the runs at an average of 42.33 and a strike rate of 113.29. Of the 127,112 came in the third ODI where he scored his 44th ODI century. He had been scoring runs in the last three years but had not got the big score and was not as consistent in comparison to the lofty standards that he had set for himself.
In the first Test against Bangladesh, he got out for just 1 of 5 balls because of a beautiful ball from Taijul Islam. In the last few years, Kohli has been criticised for his technique against spin and he also has not been able to get into plans on how to counter the spinners. Kohli plays more classical shots and uses fewer sweeps and reverse sweeps while batting.
The ball from Taijul was very good, it spun a mile and bamboozled Virat, it was a short ball, and Kohli went on the backfoot to play leg side, the ball spun sharply from the middle of the pitch and struck him on the pad, it looked out and the umpire raised the finger. On the ball tracker, it was crashing into the middle stump. Taijul was going to be a threat in the spin conducive conditions in Bangladesh and he proved right.
In the last three years or close to that duration of time, Kohli has not scored a century in Test cricket. He will look to rectify his shortcomings and be back among the runs in the longest format of the game. Kohli has a stellar record in Tests. He has scored 8075 runs at an average of 49.23 and a strike rate of 55.67. He has a good conversion rate with 28 fifties and 27 hundreds in Tests.
