Delhi registered their fourth win in 5 matches after beating Bangalore by 6 wickets on Monday at DY Patil Stadium. Bangalore, on the other hand, suffered their fifth defeat in a row, making their campaign a forgettable one. Their road to progress to the next stage is all but over.

Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosha guided the team to a handy total of 150 runs in the first innings with crucial knocks. Bangalore didn’t make a great start as skipper, Smriti Mandhana (8 off 15), once again, got out cheaply.

Shikha Pandey bowled an inswinger to clean up S Devine (21 off 19) in the 9th over. Heather Knight’s wicket in the 13th over meant Bangalore were in trouble at 63 for 3. Delhi were dominating the game till that stage but the arrival of Richa Ghosh changed things around.

She joined hands with Ellyse Perry and the duo wreaked havoc with the bat. Ghosh hit 3 fours and 3 sixes en-route to her 16-ball 37-run knock. But, once again, it was Shikha Pandey, who made the vital breakthrough.

However, Ellyse Perry was unstoppable at the other end. She smashed some huge hits and helped Bangalore finish strongly. Perry played an unbeaten knock of 67 runs in just 52 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes. Bangalore scored as many as 82 runs in the final five overs.

However, the total didn’t prove enough as Delhi chased it down with 2 balls left in the game. Bangalore started well with the ball as Meghan Schutt cleaned up Shafali Verma (0) with a gem of a delivery. The highest run-getter in the tournament, Meg Lanning (15 off 18) also had a forgettable night with the bat. However, it was Alice Capsey, who helped Delhi make a destructive start with her counter-attacking knock of 38 off 24 balls.

Preeti Bose sent her back in the 5th over, while Lanning and Rodrigues also departed at crucial stages. The match was evenly poised till the 15th over with Delhi still needing 42 runs to win.
However, Marizanne Kapp (32 off 32) and Jess Jonassen (29) absorbed the pressure wonderfully and guided the team, eventually.
