The Indian Cricket Board conducted a meeting on Sunday, January 1, in Mumbai to review the Indian team’s performances over the past year. Indian Cricket Board president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, Team India captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, chairman of the selection committee Chetan Sharma, and NCA head VVS Laxman attended the meeting.

Among the several major decisions taken during the meeting, the Indian Cricket Board has decided to re-introduce the Yo-Yo test to ensure that only fit players make it to the squad. Players will also have to pass the DEXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scan to be eligible for selection. The DEXA test checks bone density and helps identify players susceptible to any probable fractures due to low bone density.

The Indian Cricket Board also suggested that emerging players should have a significant amount of experience of playing domestic cricket before being eligible for selection in the Indian team.

A statement released by the Indian Cricket Board after the meeting read, “The emerging players will have to play a substantial domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team. The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of the selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players.”Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ODI World Cup 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the Indian T20 League Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the Indian T20 League 2023.”

India to play against Sri Lanka from January 3rd

The Indian Cricket Board also highlighted on other key points that were discussed during the meeting. “The issues of player availability, workload management and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting along with the roadmap to the ODI World Cup 2023,” Indian Cricket Board added.

The Indian team is currently busy preparing for the T20I series against Sri Lanka that starts on January 3. The T20I series will be followed by a three-match ODI series.

Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with several Memes on the announcement by the Indian Cricket Board. Here are some of the Tweets:
