Former RCB player, AB de Villiers believes that RCB will need to pick up a few good bowlers at the auction

On Sunday, the ten IPL teams revealed the players they retained, released, and traded with regard to IPL 2024. Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the league’s most popular franchises, held on to 17 players while acquiring two more from other teams. They parted ways with 11 players, including some prominent names like Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga.

As such, RCB’s bowling stocks have been depleted. This means that the team will need to do some serious work in the upcoming auction to bolster their bowling attack. RCB’s bowling attack has been a cause for concern for the team in recent years. In the last 16 seasons, they have consistently struggled to find a combination of bowlers that can consistently taken wickets and restrict the opposition’s score. This has often resulted in the team losing matches from winning positions.

AB de Villers agrees that RCB’s bowling attack is thin

If RCB fails to address their bowling woes, they are likely to continue to struggle in the IPL. RCB Hall of Famer, AB de Villers has also agreed to the fact that RCB’s bowling attack is indeed thin.

“It is the area where I would be worried. Obviously, there is Mohammed Siraj there, Reece Topley, and some experience there, but if you see the released players list, they let go of Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood. Those three have won them a lot of games in the last couple of seasons, especially Hazlewood; he had just a way of controlling that bowling lineup,” he said.

“It has been a well-known fact that RCB’s bowling has been an area of weakness over the years”, he added while acknowledging the fact that bowling is an area which las let the team down.

RCB’s current bowling lineup includes Karn Sharma, Mayank Dagar, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, and Himanshu Sharma. While this group possesses potential, it lacks the intimidation factor that could unsettle opposing batsmen. Consequently, RCB must prioritize acquiring a formidable bowling arsenal at the upcoming auction. With a purse of 23.25 crores, they have ample financial resources to secure some top-tier bowlers.
