West Indies suffered a heart-wrenching loss at the hands of Scotland at Harare. The Men in Maroon lost to Scotland by 7 wickets. This meant that the West Indies missed their ticket to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Scotland won the toss and chose to bowl. They were on point with respect to the execution of their plans and kept taking wickets which stemmed the run flow for the Men in Maroon.
Due to this West Indies could muster only 181 in 43.5 overs. In the run chase, Matthew Cross made an unbeaten 74 off 107 balls with seven fours. Brandon McCullum cracked 69 off 106 balls with eight fours and one six. After the West Indies crashed out they received a lot of sympathy on social media. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has thrown his weight behind the Men in Maroon and said that he loves the West Indies side and believes that they can still be number one in the cricketing world.
When Gambhir put out the tweet, there were a lot of reactions from the fans on social media. Some of the fans hinted that Gambhir should take over from Darren Sammy as the West Indies coach in the white ball setup. Sammy recently became the West Indies coach in white ball cricket. Gambhir on the other hand has been a mentor at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two seasons in 2022 and 2023.
The West Indies also suffered a loss at the hands of the Netherlands in the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifiers. That was a thriller of a game where Logan van Beek hit Jason Holder for 31 runs in the Super Over. The Men on Maroon also tasted defeat against the home side Zimbabwe who beat them by 35 runs in front of a vociferous home crowd. The campaign has not gone the way of the West Indies.
It remains to be seen how the Men in Maroon will bounce back from here. The West Indies will face India in a full tour at home. It will consist of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The men from the Caribbean will want to put up a good showing against the Men in Blue. The tour will be very interesting to watch.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
GG is joking guys. A boat with a hole can never be saved from drowning. The WI players are mainly focused on playing t20 money making cricket wherien they forget to play for their country

For that to happen, they need to learn to be a TEAM first. Right now it is a group of individual players playing individually.

They should not be playing as West Indies, but instead play as separate countries. There seems 2 b no pride left playing as a West Indian Unit..

Certainly not with the bowlers they've now.
Batting looks ominous, at least, in white ball cricket, but only on days that they come together.
Now, they may not make it to #ICCWorldCup2023

Team India players are also showing the same traits as these WI players.. they love playing the IPL but when it comes to playing for the national side, their skills suddenly start diminishing. 😂😂😂

Sorry Gambhir Saab. No way West Indies can ever revive. Their time is over. It happened in 1990s.

It's nothing for West Indies.
They focus more on T20 leagues around the world than playing for their countries. They knew it will happen 🤣
