After losing to the four-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26. Titans won the match by 62 runs and Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Match award for his marvelous century.
If we talk about the fixture, the MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. The hosts while batting first scored a mammoth total of 233 runs with the loss of just three wickets after the completion of the first innings.
The highest scorer for the team was the star India batter, Shubman Gill, who scored a magnificent century in the most crucial match of the tournament. He scored a total of 129 runs off 60 balls with 10 sixes and seven fours in his innings.
CSK to face GT in IPL 2023 Final
In the end, the GT skipper scored a quickfire knock of 28 runs from 13 balls with two fours and two sixes in his. For the visitors, one wicket each was snapped by Akash Madhwaland Piyush Chawla in their respective spells where they conceded 52 runs and 45 runs respectively in their spells. The other bowlers like Jason Behrendroff, Cameron Green, Chris Jordan, and Kumar Kartikeya, all were expensive and looked out of touch in the bowling.
While chasing the five-time champions were able to score 171 runs. The star performer for the team was World No. 1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav who scored 61 runs off 38 balls with seven fours and two sixes in his innings. The pick of the bowler for GT was Mohit Sharma who grabbed five wickets in his spell of 2.2 overs where he conceded just 10 runs in his spell.
The finals of the 2023 edition of the IPL will be played between the Gujarat side and Chennai team at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, on Sunday, May 28. Where one side, GT will try to defend its title whereas on the other side, CSK will try its best to clinch their fifth title under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
