Ahead of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023, India faces Australia in a three-match ODI series. Team India will look to continue their winning run and fine-tune their preparations for the upcoming World Cup. However, former India batter Gautam Gambhir believes that Australia will be the team to beat in the upcoming tournament.

Gambhir believes that the five-time World Champions know how to handle pressure situations, and if India beats them in the upcoming tournament, they might end up as champions. Comparing India’s performance against Australia in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, Gambhir explained his comments.

Speaking on a show of official broadcasters, Star Sports, Gambhir said, “Australia are the strongest team in the ICC events. You have to beat them to win the trophy. We beat them in 2007 and 2011 and won the trophy. They know how to perform in the knockout matches”. It’s worth noting that the five-time champions have been phenomenal throughout the multinational tournaments, as they have the highest number of winnings.

It’s worth noting that a few days ago, former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir met Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. However, after their meeting, it is rumoured that Gambhir might return to his former franchise in a different role. KKR skipper Nitish Rana posted a tweet and said it might be a homecoming.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Gambhir is currently working with the Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor. Under his guidance, the team has qualified for the playoffs twice in the last two seasons. It will be interesting to see if Gambhir continues with LSG or moves back to his original IPL team. Some reports also suggest that Gambhir might take a break from the tournament next year as general elections are scheduled.
