‘Aaj doosra wala Pandya karke aaya tha’ – Fans react to Lucknow Super Giants’ dominating 5-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Lucknow Super Giants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets to come back to winnings ways in IPL 2023.

After suffering a huge setback to Rajasthan Royals in their first contest of the Indian Premier League season, Sunrisers Hyderabad travelled to Lucknow Super Giants for the second game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who assumed the captaincy of the squad in their first game, gave that responsibility to Aiden Markaram.

On the other hand, the Lucknow Super Giants won their first home game against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday by 50 runs before losing to the Chennai Super Kings on Monday at their home, MA Chidambaram Stadium by 12 runs. It was the second IPL game ever played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Due to the pitch’s low scoring potential, which was predicted by both players and pundits, Lucknow won a crucial toss. Both sides selected spin-dominant lineups and were prepared for a close battle right away. Anmolpreet Singh helped Sunrisers Hyderabad get off to a strong start despite the early loss of Indian talent Mayank Aggarwal. For the hosts, Krunal Pandya got things going by taking three crucial wickets- Anmolpreet Singh, Aiden Markarm, and Mayank Aggarwal.

The future Indian team star, Ravi Bishnoi, provided excellent team assistance by dismissing Harry Brook, the star recruit for Hyderabad. Washington Sundar and Rahul Tripathi took their time, but they also gathered plenty of dot balls. The dot balls could prove to be the cause of a low total and would, undoubtedly, hurt them later in the game.

But Rahul Tripathi, a reliable batsman, made sure to put the bowlers under pressure in the last overs. But in the 18th over, teenager Yash Thakur took the crucial wicket after Amit Mishra took a superb catch. Abdul Samad’s valiant performance ultimately helped SRH reach a pitiful total of 121/8 over the course of 20 overs.

How did the Lucknow Super Giants innings pan out?

Lucknow started well as they were using the powerplay conditions to their favour and were managing a boundary every over. They lost the in-form Kyle Mayers in the powerplay and Deepak Hooda soon after that, but that brought the player of the first innings, Krunal Pandya to the crease.

KL Rahul and shining in low scoring thrillers has been a thing ,off late and was trying to manage the team’s innings from the start. He anchored the Lucknow innings to perfection as he was supporting the other batters around him who were reducing the required run-rate. Krunal Pandya shined with the bat as well, as he was scoring boundaries and putting pressure on the bowlers.

But Krunal wasn’t able to finish the game as he nicked an edge off Umran Malik’s bowling after a well made 31 off 24 balls. In the end, it was a comprehensive all-round performance for Lucknow Super Giants and would be looking to add more points to their tally in the coming games. They defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets and had a lot of overs to spare which would boost their run-rate.
