The Indian Premier League has been going thick and fast. The games have been electrifying and very thrilling, especially the last four games have had last ball finishes. The tournament continues to churn out young talent and also help a lot of overseas players show their worth in what is the greatest T20 league on the planet earth.
AB de Villers, when he was speaking about the league, said that MS Dhoni is the ‘GOAT’ in the IPL. MS Dhoni has been a bonafide great in the tournament. His bulked-up biceps and his new avatar took everyone by storm on social media. MS Dhoni has been spot on with the power game and almost ensured that CSK chased down a target of 175 which was set by Rajasthan Royals. But, as faith would have it, CSK lost the encounter by 3 runs.

Talking about the numbers, let us compare that of AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni. AB de Villiers has scored 5162 runs in the IPL, whereas MS Dhoni has scored 5032 runs in the IPL. When it comes to average, AB de Villiers strikes at 39.70 and MS Dhoni strikes at 39.34. When it comes to strike rate, MS Dhoni strikes at 135.77, while De Villiers strikes at 152.68. What this comparison means in terms of numbers, De Villiers is greater than MS Dhoni in the IPL.
But, the reason why De Villers has placed MS Dhoni above him in the tournament could be the harder role that MS Dhoni plays at CSK. While de Villiers has finished off a lot of games for RCB. He has not done it batting at no. 6 or 7 as MS Dhoni. Rather, he has done it batting in the middle order at 4 or 5 for the Bold Army. This could be one reason why de Villiers ranks the former India captain above him.
This is because, finishing games at No 6 and 7 is a lot harder than when somebody finishes a game coming at No 4 or 5. This is because the ability to close the game is a very tough art and only a few such as MS Dhoni have mastered it. Ab de Villiers needs to be applauded for putting MS Dhoni ahead of himself when it comes to choosing greatness.
