‘A comprehensive performance by the London Spirit’ – Twitter elated as London Spirit douse Welsh fire
The 24th Match of the Hundred took place between the London Spirit and the Welsh Fire. The Match was played at Lord’s in London. The coin fell in favour of Welsh Fire and they opted to field first. The Wicketkeeper batter Rossington and Ben McDermott, the Australian import started things off for the London Spirit. Rossington scored a quick 32 off just 20 balls, which contained four fours and one six. Ben McDermott looked threatening in his innings of 32 of 23 balls, which contained one boundary and two maximums but he was dismissed by Ish Sodhi.
Eoin Morgan scored a duck in just 3 balls faced, while Dan Lawrence and Kieron Pollard made some vital runs at the end. Lawrence scored an enterprising 43 in 26 deliveries, which had one four and three sixes. Pollard chipped in with 25 runs of 17 balls, which comprised of two fours and one maximum.
These runs made by the batters proved to be the difference in the end with the London Sprit making 156-6 in their allotted Hundred balls. As for the bowling, Josh Cobb, Dwaine Pretorius, and Jake Ball, the left-arm bowler, picked up a wicket each in their respective spells. Kiwi wrist spinner Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers, with two scalps for 19 runs in his 20-ball spell.
The Welsh Fire’s batting has not fired for them in the tournament. It was the same case in yesterday’s game as well. Barring Ben Duckett, Pretorius, Leus du Ploy, and Critchley, who got into the 30s, others had a really bad time with the bat.
The bowlers from London Spirit put in exceptional performances with the ball, taking wickets at regular intervals and ensuring that Welsh Fire could not chase the target down. In the shorter formats four-wicket hauls are unheard of, but, in yesterday’s game, Chris Wood and Daniel Lawrence bagged 4 wickets each to break the back of the Welsh Fire in their 20-ball spells and gave away only 20 runs each. Jordan Thompson picked a wicket as well.
The match got close as London Sprit managed to beat the Welsh Fire by a slender margin of 17 runs.
Twitter was abuzz as usual, Let’s take a look at some of the reactions here-

London Spirit have kept it tight in the Powerplay once again this evening, bowling plenty of dot balls to restrict Welsh Fire to 21-1 inside their opening 25 deliveries. #TheHundred @SageUK pic.twitter.com/ZowyplJLzM
