It is a big milestone for Rohit Sharma as he completes 16 years in international cricket on this day. He has been a great servant to Indian cricket. The ease at which he hits the cricket ball and the extra time that he has is second to none. The right-hander’s favourite shot while batting is the pull shot. While batting he will execute this shot all day as he faces the short ball with no fuss. The 36-year-old took up captaincy after the 20-20 World Cup in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Rohit has had a very accomplished career in the white ball formats. When it comes to ODIs, the India skipper has scored 9825 runs at an average of 48.63 and at a strike rate of 90.02. So far, he has starred for India in 243 ODIs. He has struck 48 fifties and 30 hundreds. The turning point in his career happened in 2013 when he started to open the innings for India in England at a world event. In that tournament, he scored 177 runs in five games with two fifties and had an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 75.96.

Rohit Sharma smashed five hundreds in the 2019 ODI World Cup

Rohit has been a consistent run-scorer in World events for India as well. His only regret is that he could be a part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2011. In the 2019 World Cup, he smashed five centuries and was India’s leading run scorer. The national side could not go the distance as they lost to New Zealand in a hard-fought semi-final at Manchester.

With regards to captaincy, Rohit has had a great record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he has won five titles as Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper. Sadly Rohit has not been able to replicate that form in international cricket. Under him India lost the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and also the World Test Championship (WTC) final in England. With the 2023 ODI World Cup coming up at home Rohit’s biggest task will be to recreate what happened in 2011 when India lifted the World Cup after 28 years.
