Amidst the pre-series pessimism for Pakistan, where “thrashing” seemed a merciful euphemism for the predicted drubbing by Australia, a young debutant has rewritten the script with the audacity of his talent. Aamer Jamal, the 27-year-old pace sensation, has not only carved his name into the hallowed pages of Test cricket but also breathed fire into Pakistan’s flickering hopes of a series comeback. Jamal may be at the nascent stage of his career, but the way he has taken on the Australians, a team that has dominated world cricket for years, suggests he is destined for greatness.
His six-wicket haul in the ongoing third Test at the SCG, his second in just three Tests, is a testament to his exceptional ability and unwavering spirit. It’s a performance that will echo long after the final ball is bowled, not just for its statistical beauty but for the context it provides. Australia, the mighty Aussies, were put on their toes, rattled by his raw pace and relentless accuracy.
He returned figures of 6-69 in Australia’s first innings, helping his side clinch a lead of 14 runs. His 6-wicket haul included the wickets of Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, all extremely crucial scalps. Overall, he has taken 18 wickets on the tour and will have an opportunity to add more to the tally in the 4th and last innings of the Test match. He has also played some valuable innings with the bat with the most important of those being an 89 which came in the first innings of this game.
Pakistan will hope that he does well once again as that will provide them with some hope of earning a consolation win. However, before he takes the ball, he will have to put up a show with the willow as the Pakistanis find themselves in a disastrous position right now at 68-7. He will be at crease with Mohammad Rizwan when play resumes tomorrow morning. A big performance from Jamal in both innings could lead to something special for the tourists.
Here’s a look at how ‘X-verse’ reacted to his 6-for earlier today:

In the last match, Pakistan had a chance, but our poor fielding cost us. In this game, we gave Mitchell Marsh an opportunity when he had 7 runs, and he later scored a half-century.
