In what comes as disappointing news ahead of his final test match, David Warner’s beloved Baggy Green was stolen from his backpack ahead of his Farewell Test match against Pakistan. With less than a day to go, the prized possession, which is a symbol of Australian cricketing history, went missing.
Deeply shaken, Warner released a heartfelt video on social media, making a final plea for the return of his stolen cap. With emotion evident in his voice, he specifically requested the return of the precious cricket cap that his bag contained. This worn cap was more than just a piece of gear. It held immense sentimental value for Warner. Wearing it one last time as he walked onto the SCG pitch for his final Test match was something he hoped would happen.
“Hi all, this is my last resort but my backpack, which contained my Baggy Green, has been taken from my luggage, which was transported to Melbourne airport and flown on @qantas to Sydney a few days ago. @qantas have said they checked their cameras and have not seen anyone open our bags and take the backpack, however they do have blind spots. If you are the person, who was either working for the company driving it to and from the airport or working for @qantas and have, by chance, just wanted the backpack, I have one for. I would be grateful if this were returned asap. Thanks,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside the video.
In a gesture of immense goodwill, he offered to trade his spare bag for the return of the stolen one. This selfless act underscored the profound importance of the cap to Warner, making it clear that nothing else could replace its sentimental value. “Please reach out to Cricket Australia or me via my social media and I’m happy to give this to you if you return my baggy greens,” Warner added.
The bag is understood to contain two caps, including the one that Warner has worn for the majority of his 111 Tests. In 2017 he was provided with a replacement cap when his original could not be located before his wife, Candice, found it in a bag at home.

David Warner's stolen baggy green cap prompts a promise – retrieve it, and he pledges no repercussions, even offering the backpack if necessary.
