Even though the one-day international format of cricket has less abilities to surprise the fans considering the popularity of shorter formats of the game, but recently in just the first match of the world’s biggest ODI cricket tournament, the ODI World Cup, 2023 unique record was set up by the creators of the game, the England cricket team.
England and New Zealand are currently locking horns for the first match of the ODI World Cup, 2023 at the Narendra Modi stadium, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and England, set a unique record in the game. Notably as of now, 4,658 ODI matches have been played in the history of the cricket across multiple opponents but it was just the first time when the whole squad of 11 people scored the runs in double digits.
England’s match against New Zealand brought all the players of the playing 11 to score in double digits against the lethal bowling attack of the New Zealand team. When England star batsman, Joe Root scored the highest runs for the team, 77 off 86 deliveries, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes, both scored 11 runs each off 17 and 12 deliveries, respectively.
England won the toss and chose to bat first, while all the batsmen of the team collectively put 282 runs on the board as the New Zealand bowlers sent nine English batsmen back to the dugout. New Zealand will now have to chase a target of 283 in 50 overs to win the first match of the ODI World Cup, 2023.
New Zealand and England previously locked horns in the final match of the ODI World Cup 2019 which was tied between the two and the decider was left for a super over which later tied as well. England were awarded as the winners of the ODI World Cup 2019 Considering the most number of boundaries they had scored in the game. Recently, England also beat New Zealand by 3-1 in an ODI series ahead of the World Cup.
