The recent losses of India in ODIs have raised questions about the caliber of the team ahead of the big tournaments like the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the last 20 months, India has lost the ODI series against South Africa, Bangladesh, and Australia. The latest loss against West Indies has been met with severe criticism from the fans and the former cricketers.
India rested its premier batters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the team and selected a XI which had a lot of finishers. A seasoned finisher like Axar Patel was asked to bat at number 4. Hardik Pandya had to bat at 5. Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja batted at numbers 6 and 7 respectively. It was a team of openers and finishers and did not have an anchor who could save the team from a collapse.
India lost the ODI badly and received criticism from all ends. Reacting about the same, the former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad has let out his opinions. The 53-year-old felt that barring Test cricket, India has been pretty ordinary in the Limited Overs cricket. Prasad criticized the Indian team for losing the ODI series lately and not performing up to the expectations in the T20 World Cup tournaments of 2021 and 2022 respectively.
The pacer from Bengaluru took to Twitter and wrote “Test cricket aside, India has been very ordinary in the other two formats for quite some time now. Lost the ODI series against BAN, SA, and AUS. Poor in the last two T20 World Cups. We are neither an exciting team like England nor brutal like how the Aussies used to be.”
The former Indian pacer further continued and wrote “Despite the money and power, we have become used to celebrating mediocrity and are far from how champion sides are. Every team plays to win and so does India, but their approach and attitude is also a factor for underperformance over a period of time.”
Here’s how the fans reacted to Venkatesh Prasad’s opinions –
Totally agree. Indian team has become like Bollywood !!! In sometime the stadium will go short on public also.

I don't think anything is going to change in near time.
Indian Cricket requires a lot of miracles; first and foremost is to stop this idol worshiping of players, otherwise nothing is going to change.— Shivam ( Modi ka Parivar ) (@Chahamanas01) July 30, 2023
Lack of accountability is the main reason. We are lethargic in our approach to a very laid back casual attitude. Suddenly when they lose an important tournament or match everything falls apart.

It was going good and dominating till 2020.. everything has been went upside down after covid.. I would say prioritising IPL over country made things worse for team india.. No passion to play and win for the country.

IPL has killed indian cricket as simple as that.. All passion is seen only for franchise cricket

I can only cry while watching those epic battles bei it sharjah cup, independence cup, world cup where you guys gave all your heart, sweat and blood for every single match 🫡. I can’t connect a single player in current lineup who have such focus. Sad days ahead

Any solution sir ? Everybody is good at pointing out the mistakes but please be vocal about the solution as well.
I think we all know the solution but nobody is ready to talk about it.— Sařùķ ķhěñ (@commander_new) July 30, 2023
You said it right. It was the second string playing against WI and our team appeared weak in all areas.
