It is time for the Asia Cup to take centre stage. There was a lot of deliberation about where the continental tournament will have a total of 13 games. There will be two groups of three teams. As per the draft schedule that was reported by ESPNcricinfo, Pakistan and Nepal will play the first game in Pakistan which will take place in Multan. The final would most likely be played in Colombo on September 17. As per the draft schedule, India will lock horns with Pakistan twice and one more time if both teams make it to the final.
The Asia Cup 2023 will start on August 30 2023. The multilateral tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka on the hybrid model. The model was recently approved by the Asian Cricket Council. Pakistan will have the exclusive hosting rights of the tournament. Four games will be hosted there and the remaining nine games will be held in Sri Lanka. One match will be played in Multan, Pakistan as per the draft schedule that was reported and the other three games will take place in Lahore.
The Asia Cup will be held in the ODI format as the games will serve as good practice ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India. Pakistan, Nepal and India will form Group A. Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The top two sides from each group will make it to the super four. From there top two teams in the Super Four will make it to the final.
The Hybrid model was recently approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The matches will start at 1 pm according to Pakistan Standard Time. When the games are held in Sri Lanka, they will be played at 1:30 Sri Lanka Standard Time. The Hybrid Model will be a different thing for the broadcasters as well. It might be that two separate TV crews and commentators could be sent to cover the games in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India though will play all their games in Sri Lanka.
