‘This is unwarranted’ -Fans react as Shubman Gill and his sister face abuse and threats on social media after GT’s win against RCB in IPL 2023

Shubman Gill smashed his second consecutive hundred in as many games. The man from Punjab scored a scintillating 104 off 52 balls with five fours and eight sixes. It was batting of the highest class. The Gujarat Titans opener has been in fabulous form in IPL 2023. Gill has smashed 680 runs in 14 matches at an average of 56.66 and at a strike rate of 152.46. The right-hander made four fifties and two hundreds so far in IPL 2023.
But after he scored a hundred and took GT to a famous win, Gill had to deal with a lot of abuse particularly from RCB fans on social media. Gill put out a post on Instagram after he led GT to a famous win over RCB. Certain fans were not happy as Gill’s mesmerising ton knocked out RCB in the race to the playoffs in IPL 2023. The fans did not stop there. They abused his sister as well. The fans were very disheartened as they thought GT should have not won the game when they had nothing on the line for them.

GT have been the most consistent side in IPL 2023. They have won 10 games and lost only four of them, they will face Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier. “I am in good form, it’s about getting a start and then converting it into a big one,” Gill said at the post-match presentation after he got the player of the match award. “In the first half of the IPL, I was missing out on those big ones. I was getting a lot of 40s and 50s. Thankfully, it’s all working out for me in the business end of the IPL. You need to keep playing shots in T20 cricket. You have to keep the intent and keep applying yourself, keep the belief,” Gill added.

Only 3-4 screenshots of Gill's and his sister's abuses/threats have gone viral and the whole fanbase has been dragged along with Virat who has nothing but love for Shubman.
So disgruntled even on people who supported this act.
Gill was the last man who we could have gone after.
