Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants locked horns in the 26th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023. Ahead of the game, the home team, the Royals were coming off a hat trick of wins in the tournament. On the other hand, the Super Giants were coming off a close loss against Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, in the game, the Pink Brigade won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Despite dropping LSG skipper KL Rahul twice, the home team managed to restrict the visitors to 37/0 at the end of the powerplay. The opening pair of Rahul and Kyle Mayers put together 82 runs in 10.4 overs. With the way they batted, it didn’t have much of an impact on their team. After the wicket of Rahul, the team lost some quick wickets and was reduced to 104/4.
The likes of Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis couldn’t get going much but helped the team reach 154/7. For the Jaipur-based side, Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets while Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Jason Holder took one each.
In reply, the 2008 winners had a good start as their opening pair Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal put together 87 runs in 11.3 overs. The latter scored 44 off 35 balls before getting caught at short third man. This proved to be a turning point of the team’s chase. From 87/0, the team was reduced to 97/3. Skipper Sanju Samson got run out after having a confusion with Buttler.
On the other hand, the England international scored 40 off 41 balls but got out in the 14th over trying to up the ante. Shimron Hetmyer, who has done well and won many games for Rajasthan in the last couple of seasons, failed to make an impact. At this stage, the team’s hopes rested on the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag. However, they failed to chase down 19 runs in the last over against Avesh Khan despite having only four fielders at the boundary.
They lost the game by 10 runs.

I fear Buttler player himself into a situation where he had to win the game himself. It has worked before but it can be a dangerous method. And Samson almost sacrificing his wicket didn't help

The full of drip run chase in Bengaluru and now this miserly defence in Jaipur – @LucknowIPL Are pulling off some stunners this season. 10 runs is a more than decent margin defending 155 #RRvsLSG

Mandatory clown post for RR management to send Riyan Parag ahead of Dhruv Jurel. #RRvsLSG pic.twitter.com/MV70X0a5TQ

Buttler, Chahal, and Hetmyer have been in the form of their life since the start of the last IPL and covered various deficiencies of RR like batting depth, balance & death bowling. A match where all three of them have an off day and the team sinks. #IPL2O23
