Rajasthan and Hyderabad battled it out in the fourth match of the Indian T20 League 2023 on Sunday. The match was played in Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The coin landed in Hyderabad’s favour and Bhuvneshwar Kumar opted to bowl first.
Rajasthan got off to the perfect start as Jos Buttler looked in his element. The Englishman obliterated the Hyderabad bowling attack, who looked clueless against him. He smacked 54 off just 22 balls, a knock which was laced with seven fours and three sixes.
Yashasvi Jaiswal complemented Buttler at the top and scored a stroke filled 54 off 37 balls with nine fours. The Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson made 55 off 32 balls with three fours and four sixes. He did not allow the Hyderabad bowling unit to settle and continued the carnage. However, Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag fell in quick succession in the middle-overs that helped Hyderabad slow down the run-rate.
However, Shimron Hetmyer gave the perfect finish for Rajasthan. The West Indian made an unbeaten 22 off 16 balls with one four and one six and it meant that Rajasthan finished on 203-5 in their 20 overs. T Natarajan was the best bowler for Hyderabad as he picked up 2-23 in his three overs.
In the second innings, Hyderabad made a forgettable start as Trent Boult uprooted Abhishek Sharma’s stumps with a cracking yorker and then sent Rahul Tripathi back to the hut. The Maharashtrian fell for a second ball duck. Harry Brook, who went to Hyderabad for 13.25 crore in the auction, got out to Yuzvendra Chahal for 13 off 21 balls with one four, while Washington Sundar fell to Jason Holder.
Glenn Philips threatened to take the game on after he hit a big six but got out while trying to hit Ravichandran Ashwin for a boundary. Navdeep Saini and Abdul Samad were the impact players for Rajasthan and Hyderabad respectively.
Chahal, in the last ball of his third over, dismissed Adil Rashid and then castled Bhuvneshwar Kumar to get his fourth wicket of the game. There were some late order fireworks from Umran Malik and Abdul Samad but Rajasthan still won the game by 72 runs.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
