Delhi will want to get their maiden Indian T20 League title this season. The capital city will be led by David Warner for this season in Rishabh Pant’s absence. Delhi’s best season came in 2020 when they made it to the Indian T20 League finals against Mumbai. Pant is still recovering from injuries that he had sustained in a car accident. He will be missed for Delhi this season.
In Pant’s absence, Prithvi Shaw will play a huge part for Delhi this season. Shaw has had form coming into the Indian T20 League with runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and also in the Ranji Trophy. Shaw in the 2022 Indian T20 League edition, Mumbai batter scored 283 runs at an average of 28.90 and a strike rate of 152.97. The top-order batter will be hoping to have a good season this year to take Delhi all the way. Ricky Ponting said that “we’re going to see the real Prithvi Shaw this season”.
“I think we are going to see the real Prithvi Shaw this season,” Ponting said. “He’s in a better physical shape than I’ve ever seen him before. I spoke to him the other day about his attitude, the way he’s working, and how things are going. I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season in the IPL. He just has that different look in his eye this year. You can see, he’s hungrier than ever,” Ponting said as quoted by Times Now.
“It just seems to me that this season, something has really clicked with Prithvi. I actually said to him at the end of the training two days ago, ‘This game, if you don’t pay full attention to it, it’ll take away from you. But if you put in the hard yards, it will give back to you all the time.’ That’s why I feel that this could be a really big year for him,” Ponting added. Shaw recently made it back to the Indian T20 side but did not get an opportunity to play.
The India cricketer, who has played a few games across all formats for India, has appeared in a total of 63 Indian T20 League games to date, in which he has scored 1588 runs at an average of 25.21. His strike rate in the Indian T20 League is 147.45. He has scored 12 half-centuries in the competition.
