Eoin Morgan likely to retire from International Cricket soon; Jos Buttler in line to become England’s next white-ball skipper- Reports
England’s white-ball captain, Eoin Morgan is all set to take retirement from International cricket. Morgan, who played a significant role in England’s resurgence in ODI cricket, is contemplating taking retirement. It is pertinent to note that Eoin Morgan isn’t in the best of forms with the bat. He has been enduring a lean patch with the bat for a long time now. England’s 2019 World Cup-winning captain scored runs at an average of 16.67 in the year 2021 in T20 internationals.
In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the Netherlands, the England skipper played two matches for the team and got out on a duck on both occasions. Morgan started his International career with Ireland but later moved to England and took the team to great heights.
With Morgan likely to retire soon, Jos Buttler is in line to take over the leadership duties in white-ball cricket. Buttler has been in the form of his life in white-ball cricket. He also led England in the third ODI against the Netherlands.
Ahead of the ODI assignment against the Netherlands, Morgan had suggested that the end of the road could be near for him than anyone anticipated. Speaking to Sky Sports, Morgan had said, “If I don’t think I am good enough or I don’t feel I am contributing to the team, then I will finish.”
Eoin Morgan has served England cricket for many years and played a big role in helping the team notch various records. Morgan has 7701 runs in 248 ODIs to his name at an average of 39.3 and 2458 runs in 115 T20I matches. Morgan has also played 16 Tests for England, scoring 700 runs at an average of 30.4.
Eoin Morgan took over the England captaincy from Alastair Cook on the eve of the 2015 World Cup in Australia. England made an early exit in that tournament but Eoin Morgan held on to his role. Later, he led England to their first-ever World Cup title win in 2019.
